Design for Disaster: High Rise Homes
Software used: Sketch-up, Illustrator.
New York has one of the highest homeless populations in the world, my group and I decided to focus our project on providing a long-term recovery solution for these people. Based in Manhattan, this roof top community allows homeless people to gain life skills and qualifications needed to regain control.
The proposal features the use of shipping containers placed on top of a high rise building. containers are modular and they can be pre-fabricated for easy construction. These containers are designed for two people to sleep in, featuring a personal roof garden to grow vegetables and fruit.
A key part of the project was the design of a communal space, focused on social and learning areas for workshops and classes for the residents.
